H‑E‑Buddy cooking classes


H‑E‑Buddy cooking classes are now available for children age four years and up. Sign up HERE for the eight week series or an individual class. This kid‑friendly cooking series is designed to teach basic cooking techniques, introduce new foods, and enable children to make better food choices. Children will experience hands‑on food preparation with a trained facilitator. These one‑hour classes are available at participating H‑E‑B stores. ​Class Schedule:

  • Week 1: Fuel up to Play‑ Learn quick and easy ways to enjoy our favorite fruits and vegetables that taste delicious. Children will build their own smoothie recipe to take home and prepare with their family.

  • Week 2: I Spy Fruits & Veggies‑ We will discuss the importance of vegetables and fruits in all meals and snacks. The group will make and taste a breakfast frittata.

  • Week 3: Fish Frenzy‑ Children will learn the importance of eating fish and omega 3 fats. The group will be tasting sushi and discuss the various ways to enjoy fish!

  • Week 4: Grainy Goodness‑ We will discuss how easy it is to use different spices to flavor our foods, discuss health benefits of spices and play games with different spices. The class will also make and taste pesto.

  • Week 5: Berry Delicious‑ Learn the benefits of berries for fiber and vitamins, and easy ways to incorporate berries into meals and snacks. Children will make their own yogurt berry parfait to take home for snack.

  • Week 6: Power Up‑ Learn the importance of protein and discuss the variety of options for lean protein. Children will sample different colored cauliflower with Greek yogurt ranch dipping sauce.

  • Week 7: Think Green‑ Children will sample various lettuces and leafy greens and to prepare their own dressing with olive oil and lemon juice or balsamic vinegar to learn the importance of leafy greens.

  • Week 8: Be KIND‑ We will talk about a variety of easy snacks for on the go and provide coloring sheets and activities handouts about the importance of being kind to others
